Prague, Czechia

This was a Christmas present from Joanne’s son Sean and it turned out to be Joanne’s fav place! We went in March so weren’t expecting decent weather but they had a mini heatwave for the first couple of days we were there which made it so much nicer. I’d known Prague was a very popular destination for years so it was a bit of a bucket list place for me and it didn’t disappoint. We stayed in Hotel International which was a bit communist era meets The Shining but it was fine! Lovely breakfast. Not so sure about dinner or Czech cuisine in general though!

We got through a lot of tourist stuff but highlights for me were the amazing, medieval Charles Bridge (where INXS recorded the video for “Never Tear Us Apart”), the Castle & Cathedral (insanely high and scary climb up the tower), the cool Astronomical clock (it comes alive every hour on the hour) and just strolling around the old town and counting the many spires! Other notable attractions were the Steel Art museum, the IAM Illusion Art museum and the Lumia Gallery. The old style trams were cool too!

Dining was hit and miss. We had a very poor meal in the fancy, expensive El Gaucho Argentinian steak house but probably one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had in Gambero Rosso Italian.

Most of the city is walkable so maybe make sure to book a hotel nearer the city centre than we did. We couldn’t figure out how to pay for the trams (there’s not a lot of English about) and had a long walk to get into town.

Transfers from the airport looked complex via public transport but an Uber was affordable.

Go out of the main areas to eat. We found a great Italian away from the crowds down a side street.

Make sure to put a lock on the Charles bridge and throw the key into the Vltava river for everlasting love! But bring the lock with you, they cost a lot in Prague.
