Spain. Meh. Been a pile of times already but probably never in October and never to Mallorca/Majorca or any islands on the east coast so had to fix that! Another Love Holidays cheap and cheerful few days to break up the Irish Autumn. I’m not stupid though, I researched potential weather mid October before I booked and while you can never be sure these days with global warming and weather weirdness, the forecasts turned out to be pretty accurate. We had a steady 25C for the four days we were there, even when it was cloudy, which it was a few brief times.
The hotel was a short 5min Uber from Palma airport. We could have tried a bus too but were in a hurry for dinner! When I was picking the hotel I noticed how very close it was to the beach but I also could have sworn I noticed a pool so was a bit bewildered to find no pool when we arrived late evening (just in time for the dinner buffet!) to find no pool. We were a little disappointed until next morning (after our breakfast buffet) when we went for a sea swim and found the water lovely. Crystal clear and just the right temperature. We agreed that who needs a pool when you have a sea like that within a stones throw! The hotel was lovely. Nice spacious room with a balcony (with slight glimpse of the sea), a lovely outdoor dining area overlooking the beach and lovely food, both breakfast and dinner. Our package included both so there wont be a lot of dining options in this blog! There was lots of food choices, sides, salads, mains, deserts, pastries, hot, cold, etc.. and there was even a live cooking station.
This was a chillout holiday so apart from walking up and down the beach and along the coast a bit towards Palma city (just me!) for a bit of exercise and to see a bit more of the place, we pretty much just stayed on the beach, in the sea throwing a mini rugby ball or in the hotel bar where I may have drunkenly danced on DJ Wednesday! A rare thing.. One other special note about the hotel was that you can use not only their luggage room after checkout but their changing room and shower which turned out to be dead handy because we had a very late flight home and still wanted to swim a bit before we left. The changing room could use a lock though. Apologies once again to the naked, showering lady I burst in upon..
Apart from that the only other activity we did was visit Palma Aquarium on the last day after checkout, mostly just to kill some time. It’s probably the largest aquarium I’ve even been in and highlights included the Jungle garden and massive shark tank and glass bottomed boat trip across the top of same. I’d avoid the 3D whale show though. Damn hard to find the theatre and it was only about 10mins.
I wouldn’t go back to Mallorca, it has a bit of those Ibiza/Magaluf vibes and I shudder to think what it would be like in high season but then again, I very rarely go back to anywhere twice!
