Slow-Cooked Coke Ham

Ingredients

Ham

  • Smoked Ham Fillet (end piece)
  • 2L Coke (full sugar, not diet)
  • 4 Star Anise
  • 6 Cloves
  • 1 Online (quartered)
  • 2 Garlic Cloves

Glaze

  • Soy
  • Mustard
  • Honey
  • Brown Sugar

Ham

  • Add the onion, garlic, cloves and star anise to the bottom of the slow cooker
  • Place the ham fillet on top of the veg and spices
  • Add 2L of coke

Glaze

  • Mix the soy, sugar, mustard and honey in a small bowl, adjusting the amount of honey and other ingredients until the glaze is thick
Cook on high for 4 hours and low for a further 4 then transfer to a baking tray and brush all over with the glaze and wrap in tin foil and transfer to a preheated oven at 220C (fan) for 30mins, removing the foil half way through and basting the glaze with a brush.
Allow to cool for about 15mins before carving. This is my Christmas ham so serve with all the trimmings!
I’ve found the end piece of ham fillet is nicest as it gives more of that golden crust when baked but any ham joint will probably do. I’ve heard people say cider works too instead of coke.
