Homemade Smashed Beef Burgers

Ingredients
  • 500g Very Lean Beef Mince
  • 1 Large Egg
  • Breadcrumbs
  • 2tsp Smoked Paprika
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Packet of Smoked Rashers
  • Mature Cheddar Cheese
  • Pickled Gherkins
  • Beef Tomatoes
  • Iceberg Lettuce
  • Chunky Burger Buns (not brioche!)
  • Mayo & Ketchup
  • Add mince, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, paprika, salt & pepper to a large mixing bowl and mix well
  • Form into 4 balls and set aside
  • Heat a large frying pan to a medium-high heat
  • Place the meat balls on the pan and use a potato masher or other similar flattening utensil to squash the burgers thinly
  • Cook evenly on both sides
  • While the burgers are cooking, bake the rashers under a hot grill
  • Chop the gherkins and tomatoes thinly and set aside
  • When the burgers and rashers are finished cooking, assemble the burgers: meat first followed by cheese slice, bacon, tomato, gherkins and finally lettuce
  • Apply your sauce of choice to the top bun and complete the burgers
Hot pan and grill or oven required.
Serve the burgers with homemade chips or side salad or coleslaw.
For chicken burgers, cut chicken breasts in half lengthways and bash with a mallet until thin then bake in a preheated oven at 200C (fan) for about 20 mins.
