Apple Tart

Ingredients
  • 3 Large Cooking Apples
  • 8oz Plain Flour
  • 4oz Butter
  • Sugar (Brown ideally)
  • Pinch of Salt & Sugar
  • Water
  • Put the flour, butter and pinch of salt and sugar in a bowl
  • Soften and add the butter and crumble with your hands until well mixed
  • Add just enough water to bring together to form a dough
  • Cut dough in half and roll both to the size of your cooking plate
  • Peel and roughly cut the cooking apples into fairly small pieces
  • Grease the plate and add the dough base then heap the apples on top
  • Put (lots!) of sugar on top of the apples then place the dough top over
  • Moisten the edges of the dough and seal together with a fork
  • Cut some holes in the top with a knife or fork to allow heat to dissipate and brush the top with egg
Cook in a pre-heated over at 200C (Fan) for 10 mins then reduce to 180C for a further 30 mins until well browned.
Serve warm with ice cream of course!
After applying the egg wash to the top my Granny would always sprinkle a bit more sugar..
