Apple Tart
Dessert
Ingredients
3 Large Cooking Apples
8oz Plain Flour
4oz Butter
Sugar (Brown ideally)
Pinch of Salt & Sugar
Water
Method
Put the flour, butter and pinch of salt and sugar in a bowl
Soften and add the butter and crumble with your hands until well mixed
Add just enough water to bring together to form a dough
Cut dough in half and roll both to the size of your cooking plate
Peel and roughly cut the cooking apples into fairly small pieces
Grease the plate and add the dough base then heap the apples on top
Put (lots!) of sugar on top of the apples then place the dough top over
Moisten the edges of the dough and seal together with a fork
Cut some holes in the top with a knife or fork to allow heat to dissipate and brush the top with egg
Cooking
Cook in a pre-heated over at 200C (Fan) for 10 mins then reduce to 180C for a further 30 mins until well browned.
Serving
Serve warm with ice cream of course!
Notes
After applying the egg wash to the top my Granny would always sprinkle a bit more sugar..
